Dairy Free Spiced Golden Milk With Maca For Balancing Hormones

Hey Loves!

So, today I have for you a redesigned recipe for my Golden Milk drink. For those of you who may not have read the first recipe I posted, Golden Milk is one of those recipes that I was brought up on. It is a turmeric-centered recipe that is great for slowing inflammation in your body, especially in your digestive tract. The use of almond milk instead of dairy serves to further help with inflammation. As a matter of fact, a study conducted in 2009 by Thorne Research showed that curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric that controls inflammation, works as a stand in for inflammation controlling medication.

On that same note, the amount of curcumin in the turmeric root is equal to about 3% of its weight. So to get the full effect of this ingredient, it is suggested to get a curcumin supplement or turmeric extract to include in this drink. Either way, be sure to get a supplement that has bioperine OR use the black pepper that is called for in the recipe. By doing this, it will help the curcumin be absorbed into your bloodstream so your body can enjoy all of the goodness.

That's not all there is to Golden Milk, however. It tastes amazing and it's perfect served warm on a cool day. It's definitely a unique, spice-filled flavor that is similar to a chai but more distinct because of the turmeric.

 Drink up!

So lately I've been a bit obsessed with golden milk and have been trying to add different things to it to switch it up a bit. This particular recipe I just had to post because it's so freaking delicious and so good for you. I recently started adding Maca powder to it.

Maca is a wonderful thing. There are numerous studies that highlight the benefits of maca powder. If you are like me and deal with PCOS, maca powder has shown to help balance hormones in our bodies, particularly estrogen. This is good for our ovulation and if we are pregnant or are trying to get pregnant. Maca is also good for promoting higher energy. So OF COURSE I'm going to add that to my golden milk recipe!

So, enough talk, let's get started loves.

List of Ingredients:

Unsweetened Almond Milk - 2 Cups, I used Vanilla flavored
Ginger - 1 tsp, freshly grated
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 Tbsp. (You can use fresh turmeric root, just double the amount and grate it.)
Maca Powder - 1/3 tsp Whole World Botanical Royal Maca
Black Pepper - 1/4 tsp, freshly ground
Whole Cloves - 5
Cinnamon - 2 Sticks
Cardamom Essential Oil - 1 Drops of Young Living brand and some ground Cardamom to sprinkle on top)
Nutmeg Essential Oil- 1 Drop of Young Living brand (You can also use the actual spice here)
Raw Honey - 1 Tbsp.

Directions:

This is super simple to make and you'll just need one pot. First, prep all of the ingredients as I explained in the list above. Then put your pot on the stove on low heat, pouring in the almond milk  and bringing it just to a boil. Then add the ginger, tumeric, cinnamon, clove and black pepper to let it infuse with the milk for maybe 2 minutes. Make sure to keep an eye out because it may boil over or start burning at the bottom. Nobody likes bitter milk, so make sure you stir it continuously.

After the two minute mark, go ahead and add the essential oils, maca powder and honey. Make sure to whisk it until the oil is emulsified since oil doesn't blend with the rest of liquid so well and the essential oils aren't the best tasting when taken straight.

I highly suggest that, if you don't feel comfortable using essential oils, you substitute it for the actual spices. I feel comfortable using the Young Living brand of essential oils in my food but if you don't, then that's okay.

Once the milk is fully mixed, remove it from the heat and serve while warm in your favorite mug. Or pour it over some ice in a tall glass and sip it outside on your new seating area that my husband showed you how to build in a previous posting. However you choose to enjoy it, I hope that this Golden Milk remix helps you live a life of health and happiness.
